OSU is a university focused on big discoveries that drive big solutions in four research areas: climate science, robotics, clean energy, and integrated health and biotechnology. Ensuring this crucial research happens in a culture that promotes safety above all – whether it be a lab, an office or out in the field – happens with the leadership, guidance and oversight of Environmental Health and Safety.

About Environmental Health and Safety
Environmental Health and Safety, which consists of Lab Safety, Hazardous Waste/Training, Biological Safety, Radiation Safety, Chemical Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Resource Protection, and Fire and Life Safety, contributes to supporting OSU's safe and healthy university environment for staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
EH&S has been instrumental in the commitment to a culture of workplace safety through the development of a Workplace Safety Culture Task Force, championed by OSU President Jayathi Y. Murthy. The department has been recognized for its innovative hazardous waste management practices and recently scored zero violations or warnings in an unannounced hazardous waste inspection from the Department of Environmental Quality.

OSU scientists and student researchers will benefit from improved lab coat management practices thanks to a new lab coat dispenser program implemented by Environmental Health and Safety.

An unannounced hazardous waste inspection from Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality would strike fear into the hearts of many, but for the dedicated staff of Environmental Health and Safety, it was just another day keeping Oregon State University’s environment safer and healthier for students, staff and the community.
